Filming Frankenstein in Parliament Square

EDINBURGH FILM & TV LOCATIONS TOUR

FROM AVENGERS TO OUTLANDER

Edinburgh has been a film set for decades

This 90-minute walking tour takes you to Edinburgh’s most popular movie and TV locations.

You’ll visit the streets, closes and historic buildings seen in Outlander, Avengers: Infinity War, One Day, Fast & Furious 9, Frankenstein, Eurovision Song Contest: The Story of Fire Saga, Rebus, Trainspotting 2, Good Omens, Department Q, Restless Natives, Baby Reindeer, Cloud Atlas and many more films and TV series.

If you’re lucky, you might even see something new being filmed in Edinburgh while we’re on the tour – J.J. Abrams’ upcoming The Great Beyond was shot here, while Rebus and Department Q will soon be back on TV.

Prefer a private tour?

My scheduled 90-minute walk covers the best-known locations, and it’s a great way to see the city on screen. A private tour offers you the whole morning or afternoon, built around the films you care about.

Where you’ll go

Sir Sean Connery once said, “Edinburgh seems to have been built as a film set,” and you’ll discover why.

The tour begins in Parliament Square, where Wanda and Vision fought for their lives in Avengers: Infinity War, and ends in Bakehouse Close, where Claire was reunited with Jamie in season three of Outlander!

Your guide

I’m Jonathan Melville, an Edinburgh film journalist and author who has covered movies and TV for BBC Radio Scotland, the Edinburgh News and other outlets for almost 20 years.

In addition, I’ve written six books on film and TV series, including Local Hero: Making a Scottish Classic, A Kind of Magic: Making the Original Highlander and The Art & Making of Highlander.

By regularly talking to the cast and crew of new and older productions about where they filmed, I’m able to keep the tour as up-to-date as possible. Find out more about me.
